Want to unsend that embarrassing text? Apple now has a fix.

Have you ever texted the wrong person? Did you text your boss at 1 a.m.? Or sent an important message with lots of embarrassing auto-corrections or misinformation?

These message failures are a part of life in 2022. But some modicum of relief is on the way. If you are using iMessage on iPhone, you can now fix your error after hit send.

Apple released the iOS 16 software update for iPhone today. The update contains many new features, but the one everyone is talking about is the ability to edit a message you just sent or completely undo a recent message.

How the new messaging feature works

The new iMessage lets you edit any message up to 15 minutes after you send it. Recipients can see a record of changes made to the message.

You can also unsend and completely delete a message two minutes after sending it.

Some other cool features include marking messages as unread when you don’t have time to reply but want to be reminded to get back to someone and recovering recently deleted messages up to 30 days after they were deleted.

Other updates to note

The iMessage update isn’t the only feature Apple is touting. Some others:

  • New ways to personalize your lock screen with photos, new fonts and custom widgets.

  • A new configuration for Focus that lets you control which apps and people you want to receive notifications from by allowing or silencing them.
  • The ability to watch a video or listen to a song with friends while chatting about it in Messages

iOS 16 is available to everyone with an iPhone released in 2017 or later.
